Synopsis:
New York. April 2003. The late winter continues…

For Naina Catherine Kapur [Preity Zinta], life is cold, grey and dull – as it has been ever since a family tragedy shook her world.

Between the constant bickering in her half Punjabi, half Catholic household, her grand-mother's temper, looking after her little sister and brother and helping her mother Jennifer [Jaya Bachchan] deal with the family's financial troubles – Naina has no time for parties, fun or herself.

She is 23, going on 50. She is serious, she is boring.

Enter Aman Mathur [Shah Rukh Khan]. Like a whiff of fresh air, he moves into their tiny Indian neighbourhood to take it over, helping others solve their problems and face life's little challenges – Aman has all the answers.

Much to Naina's irritation, he insists on interfering in her life too…

Aman pushes Naina into doing things that she would never dream of doing. He nags her till she learns to smile. He conspires with friend Rohit [Saif Ali Khan], an eligible Manhattan bachelor, to help her find happiness.

KAL HO NAA HO is the story of Aman, Rohit and Naina's journey together. How they discover themselves, find the courage to love and come together to celebrate life.

Regisseur Nikhil Advani hat in "Indian Love Story" einige Bollywood-Darsteller auf die Leinwand gebracht, die das europäische Publikum bereits aus "Sometimes Happy, Sometimes Sad" kennt: Allen voran natürlich einen wunderbar spielenden Shahrukh Khan, dann auch Jaya Bhaduri (spielt hier die Mutter von Naina) und Sushma Seth (auch hier als Großmutter zu sehen). Preity Zinta spielt ihre Rolle glaubhaft und reif. Sie hat mir schon in dem genialen Klassiker „Veer & Zaara“ so gut gefallen.
Der Film ist eine Musical-Lovestory und er hat alles zu bieten, was einen klasischen Bollywood-Film ausmacht: Eine berührende Liebesgeschichte, saubere Werte, knallbunte und ohrwurmartige Tanz- und Gesangeinlagen vor pitoreskem Hintergrund (hier die New Yorker Skyline) und auch viel Humor. Der Film ist alles andere als langweilig, verbreitet ein typisches Bollywood-Wohlgefühl gepaart mit Tränenflüssen, herzlichen Lachern und gute Laune. Eine Mischung, die nur Bollywood so perfekt zusammen bringt!
Ich habe jedenfalls alle 187 Minuten zutiefst genossen, bei manchen Stellen viele Tränen vergossen und mich von der wunderschönen Geschichte tragen lassen. Es ist die Geschichte einer tiefen Liebe, die weit über das Leben hinaus geht und uns Echtheit spüren lässt.
Es ist eine Bollywood-Musical-Lovestory der Superlative! „Kal Ho Naa Ho“ (Vielleicht gibt es kein Morgen) ist ein sehr zu empfehlender Film, der Sie sicherlich berühren wird. Da die DVD von ‚Rapideyemovies’ synchronisiert wurde ist auch dies vom Feinsten und obendrein noch eine 70-minütige Bonus DVD dabei.
