Makhana is sometimes referred to as fox nut or lotus seed.

Makhanas are widely grown throughout Asia and are sometimes roasted and enjoyed as a savoury snack or added to curries, side dishes or desserts.

Phool Makhana is the seed of the lotus plant and looks a bit like popcorn. Dried lotus seeds need to be soaked in water overnight before use due to their consistency. They can then be added directly to soups or used in other dishes. Alternatively, they can be roasted as a snack.
