Synopsis: PARDES was the first film to become the voice of NRIs facing a cultural divide on foreign shores. Kishorilal, a billionaire American NRI, deputes his nephew Arjun (Shah Rukh Khan) to get an Indian bride for his American-Indian son Rajiv (Apoorva Agnihotri). Ganga (Mahima Chaudhary), the beautiful daughter of Krishorilal's old friend is chosen as the bride-to-be . When Ganga visits her fiancée, Rajiv in America, she realizes the cultural differences that divide them but refuses to change her Indian values to fulfill her dreams. Arjun, the catalyst, joins her struggle, helps her to come back to India, and soon the two wonder whether they are made for each other?...

Die Geschichte rollt sich in herrlichen Bildern, die wie bunte Gemälde anmuten, vor den Augen des Zusehers auf. Die Lieder sind alle sehr schön und einfühlsam. Der ganze Film besticht durch seine Farbenpracht, die wirklich eine Augenweide ist. Die Dreiecksbeziehung ist wohl ein klassisches Thema in den Bollywood Filmen, aber hier wird sie vor dem Hintergrund der Identitätsfindung eines ganzen Volkes dargestellt. Inder in Indien und Inder in den USA und ihre jeweiligen Motive, Motivationen und Traditionen beleben den Film zu einem Sittengemälde ganz eigenartiger Schönheit. Die so genannte ungezügelte Freiheit des Westens und die manchmal brutal-blutige Kampfeslust und Sitten des Ostens prallen aufeinander. Manche versuchen, mit anfänglichem Erfolg, auf beiden Gewässern zu schiffern, doch so einfach das geht natürlich nicht! Im Film wird schon sehr deutlich gezeigt, dass es immer auf den Menschen selbst und seine Herzensbildung ankommt, um das was man als seine Heimat und seine Traditionen ansieht ausleben zu können, ohne andere zu verletzen! Egal ob Inder oder nicht und egal ob in Indien oder in den USA oder sonstwo!!
Es ist ein Film, der sicherlich zum Denken anregt und einige Fragen aufwirft - auch für uns hier in der "westlichen Welt"! Mir hat der Film sehr gut gefallen!
