Ayurveda the "knowledge of life" is a traditional Indian healing art. According to Ayurveda, life is a unity of body, senses, mind and soul. In order to maintain this balance, Ayurvedic teaching relies on a mixture of nutrition, massage and cleansing techniques, spiritual yoga and herbal medicine.

According to Ayurveda, copper protects the body from diseases and balances all three doshas. The Doshas - Vata, Pitta and Kapha - stand for the very different physical processes and characteristics.

Ayurveda recommends a simple, practical and effective method of drinking water in its most holistic way - drinking water from a copper vessel. To make copper water, pour water in the copper vessel and leave it overnight. When water is kept for a specific time period in the copper vessel, it kills the undesirable bacteria and viruses and the resultant water gets charged with the health benefitting qualities of the copper. Drink it as soon as you get up in the morning. You can also use your copper cup to drink water from it at all times. It's recommended to drink the water at room temperature. The copper vessel should not be stored in fridge.

Oxidation changes the color of copper and over time the material can appear blotchy. These are natural processes that have no negative effects on the drinking water from the bottle.

Handmade Ayurvedic drinking vessel made of pure copper

Copper water vessels such as bottles, mugs, jugs, etc. are a real ZeroWaste alternative. High-quality copper vessels last for generations. The low energy requirement during production results in a good energy balance. All copper vessels offered in our shop are fair trade, recyclable and non-toxic.

Copper is the only material that has a health-promoting, Ayurvedic effect on the water it contains.

In Ayurveda, copper vessels are popular for their antibacterial and alkaline effects. For example, still water that is kept in a copper vessel overnight should contain measurably fewer bacteria and have a higher pH value. In terms of taste, the water is perceived as particularly fresh and pure.

The water in the copper vessel naturally stays cooler than the ambient temperature.

Care of the copper vessels

The copper vessels are made of pure copper and therefore acquire a natural patina & will naturally darken over time. The copper vessels need to be cleaned from time to time. Simply sprinkle a pinch of salt, vinegar or baking soda on a slice of lemon and rub lightly over the surface of the copper vessels. This is how the shine of the copper comes back. The inside of the copper vessels also patinates, but this has no effect on the quality of the water stored in the vessel. Simply wash with warm water from time to time, but never clean in the dishwasher.
