Synopsis:
The movie is based on the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971. Khanna plays Bachchan’s son who goes to rescue him when Bachchan is taken a prisoner in Pakistan. Dutt helps Khanna in the rescue.
December 3, 1971. War broke out between India and Pakistan. At the end of this war, 92,000 Pakistani soldiers returned home... 60,000 Indian Defence Personnel also returned...
But 54 Indian soldiers remained unaccounted for. Pakistan on its part denies their presence in any Pakistani jail. 33 years later, their families are still waiting for their return. In 1983, Pakistan allowed a contingency of six Indian family members of the POWs to check the jails for themselves. Intriguingly, the families were allowed to check only one jail, and felt cheated. An international Red Cross team attempted to trace them. They failed too. And yet, there is proof that the POWs continue to languish in Pakistan jails. the verbal testimony of someone as eminent as the Late Zulfikar Bhutto. Photographs in Time Magazine. Testimonies of other people who had been imprisoned in Pakistan jails. But it made no difference. These men are technically neither dead, nor alive.
33 Years...
33 Years of incarceration and torture, inhuman imprisonment, brutality. 33 years can do a lot to a man. Apparently, the POWs are left shells of the brave, valiant soldiers they once were. Now forgotten By Army, By Government, By the Public, By the very Country whose Borders they defended, many of the prisoners are supposed to be out of their senses. Stark raving man. Pakistan continues to deny they exist. This film is dedicated to those men Non-Existent people.

Amitabh Bachchan as Ranvir Kaul
Life has come full circa for Bachansaab. Three decades after playing the angry young man in Yash Chopra's Deewaar (1975), the superstar looks forward to re-establish his angry old man image with Milan Luthria's Deewaar. Big B plays Ranvir Kaul, the leader of 54 prisoners of war in Pakistan who leads them to escape from Pakistan.
Akshaye Khanna as Gaurav
Akshaye Khanna plays Gaurav, the man on a mission. He is Ranvir's son who travels from India to Pakistan in search of his father. The character is that of a normal guy who earnestly wants to bring his father back home. With Khanna Jr. portraying the character, rest assured, some fine nuances are in store for the audiences.
Amrita Rao as Radhika
Amrita Rao plays a cameo in this escape-drama. The petite actress plays Radhika, the love interest of Gaurav. Radhika is a Hindu born Paki citizen. A conservative character who accompanies Gaurav on his journey but never becomes his destination.
Sanjay Dutt as Khan
Sunjay Dutt pitches in with yet another author-backed role, that of Khan. He helps Akshaye in his mission.
