This melodramatic film is Yash Chopra’s debut as an independent director. The unusual, bold theme and powerful performances by the stars are the highlights of the movie. Manmohan Krishna won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor and the movie elevated Mala Sinha to stardom. This is also considered to be one of Rajendra Kumar’s best films. Mahesh Bhatt describes the seduction scene as typical of the period, accompanied by thunder, lightning and a downpour. There is also a strong plea for communal harmony. Tightly edited scenes and high angle shots in the movie are characteristic BR Films touches. N Dutta’s great music score includes ‘Tere Pyaar Ka Aasra Chahta Hoon’ and ‘Tu Hindu Banega Na Musalman Banega’.
